Stations: Experimental Design Twelve sonic anemometers were set-up at the perimeter of the burn zone to monitor near-surface winds and temperatures. Instrumentation and Calibration There were a mixture of RM Young and METEK sonic anemometers mounted at 3m. Spatial calibration was done with the Solocator to align the anemometer with north. The solocator app stamps photos with GPS coordinates, bearing, altitude, date, and time. Time was in UTC. Data Processing and QA/QC We have subsequently analyzed the data to take 10-minute averages of the wind as well as produce many derived wind products. These include statistical analysis of the 3D winds, Turbulence Kinetic Energy, and the inverse of the Monin-Obukhov Length Known Issues/Data Limitations Station 4 - Was non-operable throughout the campaign. Station 8 - The second batch of data only included data from 3/13/2023 but the GPS file from that day is empty so it is possible that the timestamps are wrong. The data may be for 3/16/2023 so we need to check the data against the other stations. Stations 3, 6, and 9 were all moved from the public road for the days when they would be unattended between burning the first 20% of G-25 east and the last 80%. Station 6 was not moved back or realigned due to a lack of time before the burn. The tripod pole of Station 6 was -2 degrees along one axis and 1 degree off from plumb. While that is likely close enough not to require correction, the data will need to be rotated so it points north. |
