Wildfire Risk Index

A geospatial product produced by the Missoula Fire Modeling Institute that provides a raster quantifying cumulative wildfire risk to High Value Assets and Resources (NVRAs) across the coterminous United States. Risk is characterized in terms of Net Value Change (-1 to 1) for a variety of Asset Classes: Infrastructure, Surface Water, Building Structures, Timber, and Cultural Resources. A score of 0 indicates no perceived change to Value, and -1 indicates 100% depreciation in the value of the stated asset. The scores were averaged, aggregated and characterized in a color gradient to evaluate Risk at the HUC12 sub-watershed level for Southern CaliforniaThe Watershed Boundary Dataset (HUC‑12) provides standardized delineations of California’s sub‑watersheds, capturing hydrologically meaningful drainage areas used for water‑resource planning and analysis. Maintained by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), the dataset is derived from the Calwater 2.2.1 watershed framework, which integrates both state and federal hydrologic coding systems. Each polygon represents a nested watershed unit and includes detailed attribution such as hydrologic region, unit, area, sub‑area, acreage, and cross‑referenced USGS Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUCs). The dataset supports consistent statewide hydrologic modeling, resource management, regulatory reporting, environmental assessment, and GIS applications.
