SCIRP_Surface_Water_Wildfire_Risk_Index

This geospatial raster dataset, produced by the Missoula Fire Modeling Institute as part of the national Quantitative Wildfire Risk Assessment, maps cumulative wildfire risk to High Value Resources and Assets (HVRAs) across the coterminous United States. Risk is expressed as Net Value Change (NVC), ranging from –1 (complete loss of asset value) to +1 (maximum potential benefit). The analysis integrates modeled burn probability, wildfire intensity, and asset‑specific response functions to quantify expected changes in value for multiple asset classes. This layer represents the Surface Water HVRA, specifically EPA‑designated 24‑Hour Source Water Protection Areas for drinking water. It identifies where wildfire could degrade or improve the condition of these water‑related resources, supporting hydrologic risk mitigation, fuels treatment planning, and watershed resilience assessments. Values near 0 indicate no anticipated change, while negative values reflect increasing levels of potential loss
